Onion Chutney

Onion Chutney is my favorite chutney of all and it goes well with Idli, Dosa & Chapathi(roti) as well

Desika Products:
Peanut Oil, Seedless Tamarind, Gluten Free Hing, Jaggery Powder

RECIPE FOR ONION CHUTNEY

Ingredients:

Medium Red Onion - 2
Red Chillies– 3 to 5 nos
Tamarind / Kudam puli - a small piece
Jaggery Powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt as Needed

To Temper

Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon

Asafoetida - 1 pinch

Peanut Oil- 1 and 1/2 tblsp

Instructions:

  1. Peel and cut the onions into big cubes

  2. Soak it in ice cold water with little sat for 2 to 3 mins and drain it

  3. Take a mixie or vitamix jar add chilies, salt and jaggery and grind it to a powder.

  4. Add Tamarind to the mixie jar and pulse it

  5. Now add onions little by little and pulse it.

  6. Transfer to a container

  7. Take oil in small pan or kadai , once it’s hot add mustard seeds let it sputter, add asafoetida and curry leaves.

  8. Add the tempering/seasoning to the chutney and its ready to serve

Tips & Tricks:

  • Onions come in different shapes some are wide and some are long. I usually pick wider ones that’s little wider to avoid the sharp and pungent flavor

  • Never use an onion that is ready to sprout
