Welcome to Kuttimacooks.com! My name is Sneha…
I grew up in a farmhouse, in a village called Pitchanatham near Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.
Growing up, I enjoyed eating homemade food, as my grandmother cooked from scratch, using our own farm grown products. When I moved to United States, I missed the farm grown products very much and when I was almost ready to give-up quest towards finding them, I stumbled up on Desika Foods, Tirunelveli.
What difference did I find with Desika Products?
I first explored Desika foods’ Seeraga Samba rice. This is a relatively hard to find rice variety as its only grown in very few places. I feel that it is less starchy and more filling compared the other store-bought rice varieties.
The next item I explored was Desika foods’ urad dal for making Idlies. Usually idlies made with store bouht urad dal are only soft the first day. To my surprise, when I used Desika’s urad dal, I found that the idlies remained soft even when I re-used the batter the second day. This heightened my curiosity to know more about what made the difference in their products
What’s the difference?
Upon further research I found that all their products are grown in their family-owned family farm and were grown without using chemical fertilizers. Instead, they use neem oil and turmeric as pesticides - this was how my grandfather farmed back in India. Not only that, just like my grandfather, they never used hybrid seeds or mechanical processing. This proved their quality and I embraced all their products in my cooking since 2019.
Journey continues with Desika…
Ancient Tamil poetic work Thirumanthiram says, “யான் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெருக இவ்வயகம்”. Roughly translated, “your newfound joy is only complete when you share the benefit of your experience with others.” Per that saying, I decided to be a conduit for my local community to buy and enjoy the benefits of Desika foods and start this blog to share the many recipes I have learned over the years. Thank you!
