Ragi Idli

My family and I have usually had red rice idlies for breakfast. However, about two months ago, we got bored of having red rice idlies only. This is when I started exploring other varieties of idli recipes. and tried the combination below with ragi. I found it to be very easy to make. Along with that, my whole family loved these ragi idlies. It is also very healthy and tastes yummy. Now, one week I make red rice idlies and another week I make these delicious ragi idlies. Hope you like them!

Ragi flour, Idli rava, Urad dal

RECIPE FOR RAGI IDLI

Ingredients:

Ragi flour - 2 cups

Idli Rava - 2 cups

Urad Dal - 1.5 cups

Methi Seeds - 1-2 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Soak urad dal with methi seeds for 3-4 hours.

  2. 1 hour before grinding the urad dal, soak the idli rava in water, drain the excess water, and keep it aside.

  3. Now take the ragi flour, add water to it, mix it without any lumps to a thick paste.

  4. Grind the urad dal into a smooth paste, add it to the idli rava and mix well.

  5. Now add the ragi paste from step 3 with step 4 and mix everything thoroughly.

  6. Let it ferment overnight and you can make idliess next morning.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you are using wet grinder, one cup urad dal should suffice. If you are using mixie jar, 1.5 cups.

  • Do not skip methi seeds. It helps to make softer idlis.
