Tamarind Rice

Tamarind Rice/ Pulihora is an all-time favorite in our family. Desika pulihora mix has made this easy to make this as a lunch box recipe for my girls. Hope you enjoy this as well.

Desika Products Used: Seeraga samba rice, Pulihora paste, Kala Chana, Turmeric powder, Peanut oil, Sesame oil

RECIPE FOR TAMARIND RICE

Ingredients:

Cooked Rice - 4 cups

Desika Pulihora Paste - 4-5 tsp

Peanut Oil - 2 tbsp

Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp

Cooked Kala Chana - 2-3 tbsp

Curry Leaves - few

Salt as needed

Instructions:

  1. Transfer the cooked rice to a big bowl. Allow it to cool.

  2. Heat up peanut oil in a small kadai and add turmeric powder and curry leaves. Add this seasoning to the rice.

  3. Add pulihora mix and cooked kala channa to rice and mix all ingredients thoroughly.

  4. Adjust the salt if needed.

  5. Let the mixed rice sit for 2 hrs to enhance test.

Tips & Tricks:

  1. You can add more peanuts during step 2 for a crunchier rice.

  2. You can also add sesame oil to enhance the flavor

  3. For cooking the rice for this recipe, I use 1/2 cup less water than usual so rice doesn’t become mushy. Also, avoid few drops of sesame oil to cook rice to avoid stickiness.

  4. I used seeraga samba rice for this, but you can use any rice variety you’d like
