Jowar Uthappam

Desika Products:

Jowar flour, peanut oil

RECIPE FOR JOWAR UTTHAPPAM:

Ingredients:

Idli Batter - 1 cup

Jowar Flour - 1/2 cup

Finely Chopped onions - 1 cup

Grated Carrots - 1 cup

Finely Chopped Green Chiles - 2 to 3 tsps.

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Urad dal - 1 tsp

Curry leaves - 2 sprigs

Salt as needed

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix Idli batter and jowar flour together. Make sure there are no lumps.

  2. Add water if needed while mixing- I only added 2 tablespoons of water β€” to ensure it is in dosa batter consistency

  3. In a kadai, heat up oil and add mustard seeds. Let it sputter.

  4. Add green chilies, onions and carrots and saute for 5 mins. If you like it mushy, fry for longer.

  5. Add the ingredients from the kadai to the batter and adjust the salt if needed

  6. Let the batter settle down for 5 to 10 mins

  7. Heat up the Dosa tawa and start making uthappams, add oil around it. Cover with a lid to ensure it’s evenly cooked.

  8. Once cooked, flip the utthappam and allow it to cook well.

  9. Jowar Utthappam is ready to be served!

Tips & Tricks:

  • You can replace jowar flour with any millet flour of your choice - I personally like jowar.
